Book of Fountains: No. 4 — About This Work
Gabriel Huquier, c. 1736
About the Work
The fountain subject belongs to a printed group of elaborate ornamental water features. Fantastical and architectural components are arranged as a decorative proposal rather than a record of a built fountain.
The museum identifies Gabriel Huquier as the printmaker and the design as after François Boucher. Such etched suites helped spread the French rocaille vocabulary of shells, rocks and other playful forms.
The recorded sheet is 35.5 × 25.9 cm, larger than its 27.1 × 17.3 cm platemark. Both makers’ roles must be retained in editorial metadata and credits.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
