Claude Renoir, the Head Lowered (Claude Renoir, la tête baissée) — About This Work
Pierre-Auguste Renoir, c. 1904
About the Work
The child appears from the shoulders up, head lowered and eyes downcast. A light bow interrupts the dark hair, and a ruffled collar frames the face.
This lithograph uses shifts between dense, scratchy strokes and softer shading, leaving parts of the surrounding paper visible rather than making the portrait fully enclosed.
Cleveland records the complete sheet as 25.4 × 32.7 cm. The 30 × 40 cm frame presents the sheet at its recorded size without enlarging or cropping it.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
