Dancers — About This Work
Edgar Degas, c. 1896
About the Work
Rather than a curtain call, Degas shows three dancers stretching together away from the audience. Their linked poses make the scene feel observed in passing rather than formally arranged.
The pastel was built from six irregular sheets of paper joined together. Layers of yellow, orange and pink create the rough, richly worked surface characteristic of Degas’s late pastel technique.
The complete sheet measures 41.4 × 55.7 cm. Presented at that recorded scale in the 50 × 70 cm frame, the work keeps its tall format and close physical presence without enlargement or cropping.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
