Fishmarket — About This Work
Camille Pissarro, 1902
About the Work
People gather across the fish market in front of a long line of buildings. Pissarro's raised viewpoint lets the activity spread across the surface, setting individual figures within the larger rhythm of the harbour town.
The painting belongs to his Dieppe harbour series from the summer of 1902. Its broken touches of colour give the market movement without requiring every person or object to be separately described.
The architecture provides a steadier register against the bustle below. Looking between the building fronts and the crowd reveals how the scene balances repeated structural forms with the less predictable patterns of daily commerce.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach.
