Landscape with a Cottage and a Large Tree — About This Work
Rembrandt van Rijn, 1641
About the Work
A cottage and a large tree gather at one side of an open landscape. Rembrandt sets their more concentrated forms against a quieter distance, giving the scene both an inhabited centre and room to extend beyond it.
The museum records etching with sulphur tint. That combination makes tone as well as line part of the print's description, offering a way to read the landscape through changing densities rather than outlines alone.
The tree and dwelling provide a human measure without requiring a prominent figure. Their relationship with the more open ground rewards a gradual movement across the print, from nearby detail towards the lighter intervals beyond.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
