Landscape with Wheelbarrow — About This Work
Vincent van Gogh, 1883
About the Work
A wheelbarrow stands at the edge of a broad field beneath a grey sky. Van Gogh works with a restricted range of greens, blues and lilac tones, leaving the scene spacious and subdued.
He made the watercolor in Drenthe after leaving The Hague in September 1883, only a little over a year after beginning to work professionally as an artist. The Cleveland Museum of Art relates the picture to his admiration for the region’s open, largely unindustrialised landscape.
The complete sheet measures 35.7 × 24.9 cm. The 30 × 40 cm frame preserves the low horizontal proportions and keeps the work at its recorded physical scale.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
