Moroccans in the Countryside — About This Work
Eugène Delacroix, 1832
About the Work
Two figures occupy a pale, open countryside. Delacroix leaves the landscape spacious around them, so their presence is felt through their placement rather than through a densely filled setting.
Watercolour lies over graphite, combining a light drawn structure with areas of colour. The medium allows the paper to participate in the illumination of the scene, keeping the landscape's openness visible.
The title locates the subject in Morocco without supplying a more specific narrative. The sheet can therefore be approached through its recorded setting and its visible relationships of figures, ground and distance, without assigning an undocumented episode to the encounter.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
