Persian Flowers (2022.250.6) — About This Work
Jean Baptiste Pillement, 1755
About the Work
In this Rococo print, invented plant forms take the place of observed botany. Etched lines organise the ornamental flower into a self-contained design.
Pillement’s print set offered fanciful forms for decorative use, including textile design and wall ornament. Their name Persian Flowers reflects an eighteenth-century European decorative convention, not a claim of botanical origin.
Cleveland gives this impression a 30.5 × 20.9 cm plate and 42.8 × 29.2 cm sheet. The individual accession 2022.250.6 is essential for correct image selection.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
