Study of a Tulip (Anvaers) — About This Work
Pieter Holsteyn II, c. 1645
About the Work
The Anvaers tulip rises on a tall sheet, its striped flower balanced by a curling leaf. The curve gives the plant movement while the surrounding paper keeps the silhouette clear.
This image belongs to the tulip-book context identified by the museum, where painted specimens served a grower's commercial purposes. The named variety and distinctive markings are therefore central to the work's identity.
Fine brushwork and contrasting kinds of watercolour let the petals carry detail without losing their larger shape. At Original Scale, the complete sheet preserves the balance between that concentrated flower and the longer movement of stem and foliage.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
