The Sister of Duguesclin — About This Work

Eugène Delacroix, 1829

About the Work

A woman carrying a raised torch and dagger strides through the dark interior. Another figure hides her face nearby, while an armoured figure sits against the masonry.

The lithograph was issued in 1829 by H. Gaugain & Co. and Engelman Graff, Coindet & Co. Cleveland catalogues it as lithography with chine collé, a technique that places a fine paper bearing the image onto a heavier sheet.

The museum records a sheet of 30.7 × 43 cm and a smaller image area of 20.1 × 25.2 cm. The authorised sheet-scale presentation is kept distinct from the internal image measurement.

Frame finishes: Black, White or Natural.
Paper & glazing: Enhanced Matte + Perspex; or Enhanced Matte + Moth-Eye.

Why Original Scale?

Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
