Woman Ironing — About This Work
Édouard Vuillard, 1892
About the Work
A woman bends over an ironing board in a spare interior. A narrow light catches her face, setting a small illumination against the darker activity of the room.
The museum connects the subject with Vuillard's observation of his mother and sister making clothing in their Paris apartment. Work and domestic space are closely joined, giving the apparently modest action a precise setting within his experience.
The figure's posture carries the scene with little need for additional incident. The limited surroundings make the relationship between body, board and light particularly apparent, inviting attention to the visual structure of an ordinary task.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach.
