Yahagi Bridge at Okazaki (Station 39), from the series Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido — About This Work
Utagawa Hiroshige, 1833
About the Work
The print identifies Okazaki as station 39 on the Tokaido and centres the subject on Yahagi Bridge. Its long horizontal sheet belongs to the travel-series format through which Hiroshige transformed named places along the route into memorable pictorial stops.
The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido was issued as colour woodblock prints in the 1830s. In Palatine’s edition, the exact Cleveland impression and its recorded sheet dimensions remain the controlling object rather than a generic image of the design.
The sheet measures 35 × 23 cm. Presented at Original Scale in the 30 × 40 cm frame, the long landscape format is preserved without cropping, enlargement or non-uniform scaling.

Why Original Scale?
Most art-print shops offer the same image in a choice of Small, Medium and Large sizes. We take a different approach. For each edition, we begin with the recorded dimensions of the original work and reproduce the complete image at that scale, preserving its proportions and avoiding enlargement, reduction, cropping or distortion.
